Is haveing a goose down pillow like owning a fur coat?
I know,,,probably a silly stupid questioin,,,but I would like to purchase a couple down pillows,,,but then was thinking,,,,how do we get the down? is the goose alive? Im being serious,,,because I dont believe in killing an animal for my comfort,,no fur coats for me….so am I harming a goose only for the down for a pillow????
I went onto a site DeWoolfson Down.com
and they said their better quality fills, are hand harvested from farm raised geese in Eastern Europe. As the geese get older, they produce larger down clusters so they live long healthy lives. The plucking does not harm them and while it is briefly annoying they do get accustomed to it over the years.
Most of the down and feathers used in the world however is a by product of the food industry, primarily from China. Realize that much of the worl eats geese and duck like Americans eat chicken and turkey. We do use down and feathers of this kind as it would be impossible to rely solely on our European suppliers. And it would be a shame for the down to go to waste.
So there you have it from a goose down company (dewoolfsondown) . found in their faq section.

Yes a goose has to die for you to have a pillow but the goose was probably used for food if that makes you feel any better. The down is the soft feathers underneath the big feathers that you see.

No geese are part of the human food chain like ducks, chickens etc. Geese don't have fur! Anything that has fur is killing for the fur! And it's a bad thing because the animals killed are just for the fur!
I feel a law should be past that if anyone kills an animal for the fur purpose , that they have to eat the animal too! I think that would put a big crunch on killing animals just for the fur! It's night right and it should be completely ban!!!
Just like they did for the elephants , Because they were being slaughtered just for the Ivory tusks! Indians didn't kill just for the fur, they used the whole animal for every use possible! They never wasted anything when hunting animals! If it wasn't an animal that they could use for many purposed they didn't hunt them Period!!!
The down pillows were only made because they use to throw the feathers away! and so they found a way to make money off the feathers! But it's not wrong to buy them! Geese breed by the millions and if we didn't use them in the food chain! Well there would be so many, we wouldn't be able to live normal lives!!! Even when the Canadian geese were protected to long, now we have way too many and there creating many problems!!!
But to kill an animal that isn't in the human food chain is the most stupidest thing to do, they have a right to live there life's just like we do!!! It's bad enough there woods and forest where they live are being destroyed everyday by man for profiting gain!!!

think of it this way…
the goose was gonna die for the pillow and for people to eat anyways..
but the sad little chinchilla/fox/101 dalmation died for a coat.. and they threw away the rest.
things like leather, people eat steak anyways.. right?
unless you are a huge animal rights/ vegan… it shouldnt bother you to have a goose down pillow.
its good you care : )
