advice for making pillows?

whats the difference in pricing for pillow fillers and how will one filler ((such as down VS polyester, etc.)) compare to the other in terms of comfort?

also, can you get that kind of stuff in craft or fabric stores, like joann or michaels? or do you have to get it online? thanks in advance!

Synthetic fillings are cheaper and easier to work with, and can be bought in any craft store or general home store, like Wal-Mart. Synthetics can be bought either already in a pillow form of a standard size, of loose, so you can stuff the pillow yourself. This allows more freedom in the shape and size on the pillow. Synthetics tend to clump over time, and are not as comfortable as natural fillings.

Down or feather fillings are more expensive, harder to find and can generally only be bought in a form, not loose, limiting the shape and size of the pillow you are making. However, these fillings last longer and are nicer.

The other thing to keep in mind is if you want the pillow to be washable or not. The easiest way is to use a pillow form, and make the outer case so that the form is removable. That way you can wash the outer part, but not the form itself.
